Computer games have been an important part of everyone’s life ever since the beginnings. Despite of the fact that they suffered a decrease in their development, they have succeeded in raising and they have captured a big part of everyone’s life.

May one be a woman, man, child, may one have whichever career possible, everyone contemporary to these days, are aware of the existence of computer games. Therefore, one can say that actually games are a big part of our lives. Even though one may not have direct access to them, one may be the mother or the grandmother of a child that is gaming obsessed.

Related studies on influence of computer games have been made on the subject. The results were not so positive, so to speak. Some of the researches were made by the Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Magdeburg from Germany, the British Journal “Nature”, and many more such institutes that are interested in this thing. That is because many studies and researches were made during the puberty time of a youngster.

These studies demonstrated that the general aggressive model that exists in each of us, has a greater impact when it comes to youth. Therefore, exposure to violent games in that period of one’s life, lead to serious behavioral consequences, as the adolescent brain is actively learning to impulse control and how to deal with sexual and violent urges. The line between simulation and reality in the games that we are presented nowadays, is so thin, as one can no longer distinguish what one wants.

The first game ever, that has some violence acts in it, was Pac Man. It was related to destroying some ghosts. Nowadays this does not seem as violent as back then, but it actually was a kind of violent game for its time.

The results that each of them has come to was that the computer games have a bigger part of ones own life than the actual sociable part of the life one has. Therefore, they affect mainly your socialization with the rest of the people, arriving to that point in which you come to lose your friends.

The GAM related studies on influence of computer games proves that due to the amount of psychological arousal, the influence of violent games among youth is greater than during the early times of adolescence. Therefore, one person that plays violent video games, is more likely to attack a person in a similar situation in everyday life, than a person that has nothing to do with violent video games

Five effects regarding the social development of one have been observed in children playing these violent games. These effects are increased aggressive behavior, thoughts and affect, increased psychological arousal and decrease pro social behavior. All of these effects do not begin to happen if the person in question does not suffer of addiction. The addiction meaning is that a certain person isolates himself from the rest of the world and from any other social contact, playing the game in a compulsively manner, and concentrates his entire world in game achievements, despite of broadening is social life.

As usually games, be them as they may, violent, sexual, teaching, etc, have a bad impact on everyday life of a person, that is to say not just referring oneself to violence, but merely to isolating yourself from the world, they can have as well a good side.

This good side is sizeable as long as one has a proper care of how much and what importance the game has for him. One can learn a lot of new things from playing a game, can as well develop his creativity, his imagination, the way one sees life etc. the game industry is much alike the movie one. Movies can as well have both harmful and good impacts on one’s life. The problem with any of these two, is not to exaggerate using one.

I will start this article by telling you a little story that I have read some time ago, about a young man and his addiction to computer games. This boy has always been a good child, the only child in his family, always had good grades in school, never caused any problems to his parents, finished a good highschool and also graduated from a good University. He was that type of person who is very calm, and kind who liked long walks, good movies and good books. He actually had a thing for books. He liked to read and books were his life. He even opened his own Book Store, and everything was great for him. A lot of people trusted him to buy books from because they got the books in a short time and because it was obvious that the guy really knew what he was doing. This situation lasted for a few years, until…until he discovered the pleasure of playing computer games. He started like everybody does. Playing a little bit today, a little bit tomorrow and so on, until he started not to care about his life anymore. His friends called him everyday asking what was happening to him, and he would just answer “I’m busy, I can’t talk right now”. He was indeed busy, playing computer games while his books were just standing there waiting to be sold. By the end of the year he had lost everything; his family, his friends and his little store. He now works as a salesman. He sells computer games in a video store.

The conclusion of this little story is that once we are trapped in the computer game addiction is really difficult to escape from it, and most of the times people realize it when it’s already too late.

Computer game addiction has indeed become a problem, especially for young people. This story is one of the many of this kind in the world and unfortunately it hasn’t ended in a happy way.

.Ask yourself how many of these stories have a happy ending? How many of these young people know when to stop? How many of them even realize that they have a problem? I believe that not many of them. Taking into consideration that the cases of computer games addiction are more and more numerous then I believe that not enough people realize what they are getting into.

A lot of teenagers and young men have a computer game addiction nowadays and most of the times neither their friends nor the family can help them escape this addiction. The only one who can help these people is themselves. It’s important learning from the mistakes of others so next time when you feel like playing computer games all day ( and all night) long, think about the story of this guy and about what his computer game addiction did to him.

Young people in general play more often computer games than adults. It is a good way to have fun and many students don’t know when to stop playing these computer games.

The first and main negative effect of computer games is violence. Many computer games are violent and most young people actually start to enjoy violence. It would be a good thing if students learned how to keep violence only in the game but most of them have the tendency to also be violent in real life. Parents usually see this effect on their children most of the times when is already too late. So the violence of computer games is the most negative effect that computer games have on students.

Another reason why computer games are not good for students and why computer games have a negative effect on them is the ADD (attention deficit disorder).More and more students suffer from this syndrome and most of the time this happens because of computer games. Students tend to get very involved in a certain game and when they must deal with facts or situations in their life becomes very difficult for them to do that.

I was reading the other day a story about a 14 year old student who had a very big problem with computer games. He started like every student does, by playing one computer game, then another one and so on. The young man started not to care anymore about school, his friends or his family. By the time his parents realized it was already too late. His parents took his computer and locked it in another room, but the boy managed to open the door and take his computer back. Trying to talk to the child didn’t work and the parents did not know what to do anymore. Fortunately, one day, the child realized what he got himself into, and decided that this was not the way he wants to live his life and decided by himself to quit playing computer games. The fact that this child realized what he had done was a great thing, but how many students in the world manage to solve these problems by themselves without specialized help?

As a conclusion for this little story, we can easily see that the reasons why computer games are not good for students are related to the fact that they interfere in student’s social and family life. Computer games have the tendency to become addictive and as every addiction, it’s quite hard to get cured by your own and without help from friends, family or specialized persons.

The reasons why computer games are not good for students are very numerous and computer games really have some negative effects on students, and the reason why I choose to talk about these two is because they seem to be the most frequent and the most dangerous ones. In order for these things not to happen, a student must be educated in a certain way so he doesn’t fall in the trap of computer games addiction.

Game video online at the foot of the Christmas tree, then it is the rapid drift in the virtual teenager blossomed. Faced with this nightmare scenario, European companies are alarmed a new “disease” for which the therapeutic means are lacking.

More Online Games – According to a recent study published in Germany and Britain in 2007, more than a regular player in ten shows signs of addiction. Even if these practices more excessive concern Asia, where the culture of online gaming is widespread, experts believe in France as in Germany than 1% to 2% of players’ games massively multiplayer online (MMO) simulation games endlessly, have a practice of pathological nature, with a negative impact on their social life.

On average, gamers engage 35 to 40 hours per week online games, according to estimates. In France, nearly 60% of players recognize, however, have already played once at least ten hours and 5% reported spending more than 30 hours per week in the virtual world, according to a recent study by the “Rights Forum l ’internet’ French agency for regulating the Internet.

It is usually far, however, 50 hours in a row having claimed the life of a compulsive gambler South Korea 28 years in a cybercafe in 2005. According to many experts, the criterion for assessing a pathological practice of online games is not so much the number of hours but the social disruption in reality.

“Unlike the forms of dependency-related substances, addiction to online games is recognized in society as a moral weakness but not as a disease,” says Jakob Hein, head of the addiction to the Charity Hospital Berlin.

Yet this addiction “leads to similar problems in families and in the economy” and deserves the authorities treat “on the same level than the others in terms of prevention and intervention, he said. In Germany, the diagnosis of addiction to games is not recognized by health insurance funds, and specialized treatment centers can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

In his study, the German psychiatrist heard parents say they “prefer to see their children play on the internet rather than smoking cannabis. “Most experts agree that it is time to take seriously the issues of Internet addiction,” says Professor Jean-Luc Venisse, chief of addiction to the hospital of Nantes.

And “they agree that they are not action games or puzzle games but simulation games, especially multiplayer role-playing (…) MMORPGs that have the highest risk of drift addictive in subjects fragile. These games continue to evolve in the absence of the player who then feel lacking when no longer connected or excluded by the rest of the gaming community.

“World of Warcraft,” one of the games most likely to create dependency, more than 9.3 million subscribers worldwide. This behavioral dependence, which moves slowly, is indicative of some discomfort (academic failure, lack of self recovery, etc. …). In a parallel universe, players will find a virtual social environment, clear rules and a system of rewards and sanctions that they lack daily.

The phenomenon does not exist only at teens but also at fathers and mothers and the elderly, according to Laurent Baup, Legal Rights Forum on the internet. When to sound the alarm? ”From the moment you begin to wonder, is that we should have reacted long time,” said the psychiatrist Jakob Hein. Ironically, it is often on the Internet platforms that parents of problem gamblers seek advice and support.

A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and manipulates data, and provides output in a useful format. Computers that are freely programmable and can, at least in principle, process any data / information are called universal. Current computers are not only information processing machines, but devices that facilitate communication between two or more users, such as numbers, text, images, sound or video, or all at once (multimedia).

The oldest known mechanism that appears to function as a calculating machine is considered to be “clock” of Antikythira, dating to the year 87 BC and apparently used to calculate the movements of planets. The technology was the basis of this mechanism is not known.

In the first half of the twentieth century, the scientific community computing needs were met by analog computers, highly specialized and increasingly sophisticated. Improvement of digital electronics (owed by Claude Shannon in 1930) led to the abandonment of analog computers for the digital (numeric), which shape the issues in numbers (bits) instead of electrical or mechanical signals.

In the 1960s lamps (electronic tubes) were replaced by transistors, more efficient, smaller, cheaper and more reliable, leading to miniaturization and cheaper computers. Since the 1970s, adoption of integrated circuits further lowered the price and size of computers, allowing among others the emergence of personal computers today.

Nowadays, everyone has PC games ( personal computer games). It is a game played on a personal computer. Computer games constitute a category of software that is design for fun. There are several types of PC games, such as action games, strategy, arcade, simulator, card games, adventure etc..

Although, computer games are made for fun, there are several disadvantages when someone starts to play something.

First of all, people do not know when to stop. This refers to the fact that they play sometimes to much and here comes several problems. One the one hand, staying too much in front of a computer affects our health (especially our eyes). One the other hand, it causes addiction.

Second of all, if we play to much it won’t affect only our body, but also our computer. Our computer can get viruses (if we play online, or even if we bought the games online), or it can get overloaded. Or maybe if we want to play a game our computer needs to be uploaded and it cost a lot of money ( and thinking that it is only for a game, maybe it is not worth it).

And a other disadvantage is the fact that some PC games present too much violence. That is why the PC games have long been a source of controversy. Because there are minors that are playing those games and it affects them, there character, their way of being.

All in all, playing computer games involves a lot of consequences which that we can class as disadvantages. And that is why if we start playing computer games we should control ourselvels.
