Gaming Desktop Computers
The video games of our days are very advanced with complex graphics and complicated stories and characters. They have high requirements, so to be able to enjoy a video game at its maximum capacity you will definitely need a powerful computer (or laptop). but when it comes to complex video gaming, a desktop computer will be better, and this is because a PC can be upgraded in time, while a laptop doesn’t.
For example if you wish to get a new graphics card for your PC you can do this and replace the old one, but you can’t do the same on a laptop. On a PC you can also expand the RAM memory, the hard drive, get a new processor, and you can practically replace any component…while at a laptop you can’t replace anything.

So for today we’ll discuss more about two gaming desktop computers and we’ll make a comparison between them. We’ll choose a model from the famous Alienware company, a company which is specialized in producing computers and laptops for video gaming, and one from another big and famous company – HP. From Alienware we are going to choose the Alienware – Area 51 Desktop with Intel ® Core ™ i7 Processor – Cosmic Black, Model: A 51 – 2443 CSB which has a big price of 2,100 dollars at Best Buy and from HP the HP – Pavilion Elite Desktop / Intel ® Core ™ i7 Processor / 8 GB Memory / 1 TB Hard Drive, Model: HPE – 270 f . This one costs much less than the Alienware laptop, and has a price of 1,300 dollars. And as you will see now in the technical details for both models, the cheaper model from HP is as good as the other one.
So let’s begin with the Alienware computer. it comes with the best processor on the market right now, the Intel ® Core ™ i7 – 920 processor which features an 8 MB cache and 2.66 GHz processor speed, and it has a really good RAM memory of 6 GB DDR 3 (which can be expanded up to 12 GB). The optical drive is a Multiformat DVD ± RW / CD RW drive, while the hard drive is a 1.2 TB Serial ATA II hard drive (with a speed of 7200 rpm). In case you don’t know how much 1.2 TB means, we’ll tell you. It means that it has a capacity of 1,200 GB, which is very much. So you will be able to store hundreds of large games, movies, programs, music and so on. A powerful gaming computer will definitely need a good graphics engine too, so this one has the ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics which features 1024 MB video memory and DirectX 11 capability. It also has High Definition 7.1 channel audio support, for a great audio quality. It comes with 9 high speed USB ports and 2 IEEE 1394 FireWire interfaces. It also has built in 10 / 100 / 1000 Ethernet LAN for easy access to the internet and comes with an installed version of the Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bit operating system.

So here were the most important features for the Alienware computer, and now let’s look at the ones for the HP computer. Even though it is much more cheaper, it also has the best processor, the Intel ® Core ™ i7 – 930 processor which features a 1 MB L2 cache + 8 MB shared L 3 cache and 2.8 GHz processor speed. And the RAM memory is actually much better – it comes with 8 GB PC3 8500 DDR 3 SDRAM as default, and this memory can be expanded up to 24 GB. The optical drive for this PC is also better, and it has a Blu-ray Disc enabled DVD ± RW / CD RW drive which features read support for Blu-ray Disc and also double layer support using compatible DVD + R DL and DVD – R DL media. The capacity of the hard drive of this computer is just a little smaller than the one from the Alienware PC, but it is still really big. It has a capacity of 1 TB (1,000 GB). The graphics engine is quite similar, and it has the ATI Radeon HD 5570 graphics which features 1 GB of video memory for lush images. To offer you a great audio quality, this computer also has High Definition audio support with 7.1 channel surround sound capability. But of course, you will need to buy the surround sound system separately.
This PC also has a HDMI port, so that you can connect it to a High Definition TV, and enjoy movies and video games at a great video quality. It also has a 15 in 1 media card reader with support for SmartMedia, xD-Picture Card, MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital, miniSD, CompactFlash I, CompactFlash II, Microdrive, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo formats. It may not have 9 USB ports, but it has 7 of them, and this can be quite enough. And it also features one IEEE 1394 Fire Wire interface. This computer has built in 10 / 100 / 1000 Base-T Ethernet LAN too, but it also has built in wireless LAN (802.11 a / b / g / n) for easy access to the internet. And finally it also comes with a version of the Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bit operating system and some other programs such as: HP MediaSmart Software Suite, Cyberlink DVD Suite Premium, Microsoft Works 9.0 and more.
As a conclusion the HP gaming desktop computer is much cheaper than the model from Alienware, and it has similar features. Actually some of its features are even better than the ones from the computer of 2,000 dollars. So from these 2 models, we definitely recommend the one made by HP. In case you own one of these powerful and expensive desktop computers, we invite you to tell us all your opinions about them, and also tell us which video games you played so far on them. Have a great day!
