What do computer games actually mean? Are there any good things that one may think of, when saying computer games? Or are there just negative thoughts about them? In 1960s when the first ever computer game was created no one ever thought that there may be any bad consequences of computer games in the life of a person. Anyhow, this happened, and we keep wondering ourselves, if inventing computer games was worth the trouble?

It is important to acknowledge the fact that the effects of computer games are not just bad, but there is a gap between the bad effects and the good effects. I will start by presenting the good effects as to move on to the worse part later on. Games were offered to us by technology. The technological environment has taken such a rapid growth that people did not even notice when the thirty years of gaming passed by. If at first not everyone had access to computer, more to say to computer gaming, in the early years of 1980’s, as a result to some studies then made, teachers believed that introducing computers into the classrooms and allowing children to have some relaxing moments at school will somehow help their creative thinking, their divided attention performance, developmental issues, spatial and coordination skills.

Then, some researchers nowadays, go that far, as saying that video game training will offer one promising means of improving perceptual, attentional, cognitive abilities, of training the brain to think, memorize, analyze, compute and identify. Most of the times, these expected effects of computer games, leave themselves to be waited. Even though, there were made researchers on this issue and those were the conclusions, it is good to be aware of the fact, that in order to get to these effects, the person playing a computer game, should have some principles well implemented in his or her life.

If the person is easy to manage and does not have some ground rules, some healthy living principles, the game and everything that goes on there may trigger and have bad effects on that person. Though, physicians argue on the fact that a person should be rational and know to make the differentiation between right and wrong, none can ever say that has total control of the brain.



This is why, most of the times the effects of computer games on people prove to be bad and get worse with every day that passes. This is because games contain a lot of violence in them a lot of bad speech. These bad effects are proved to differ in accordance to the amount of time that children spend in front of the computer playing games, and to the content of the game they actually play. While the preferred games are the violent ones, this is because they are the mist attractive to children. Playing video games will lead to increased psychological arousal, increased aggressive thoughts, feelings, behaviors and decreased prosocial helping.

In developing these bad influence on children behavior one should know that parents play a great role. If parent would be more attentive with what their children do and what games they play, no such results will happen. While the violence is not the only effect that the computer games have on children there may as well cause children to be less sociable and less academically capable.

There are many things to say about the effects that the computer games have on young people, but the conclusion to all of this is that if one manages to maintain a “healthy relationship” with the computer games available and to take the best out of them, they will have just good effects on people. However, it is good to know that the development of computer games, has come so far as there are even toddler and infant computer games, specially designed for parents and little ones to spend quality time together.
